Virtual reality and Human Perception

Virtual reality is an artificial environment created by the computer systems it makes possible to experience anything, anywhere, anytime. It is a type of reality technology and can convince the human brain that it is somewhere in the reality. With this technology companies on like Facebook, Google, and Microsoft are investing dollars into virtual reality companies and start-ups.

Virtual reality is not only for the entertainment world, it is also been taking more part in practical fields like the latest fashion trends to try then from home, to piece together the car engine. But this technology is still trying to tackle the human perception problems. This describes how we take information from the world and build understanding from it. Our perception of reality is on what bases we are taking our decisions on a situation or a problem and it also determines our presence of mind in that situation.

Problems of human perception with virtual reality

It is a challenge to face the problem of designing virtual reality systems that transport human to the new world with the full presence of all their senses. as virtual reality experiences are increasing in the business and it became difficult to quantify the contribution each element of the experience make to someone’s perception inside a virtual reality headset.

For example: when watching a 360 degree film in a VR technology, how we can determine the computer-generated image is less to the movie enjoyment than the 360 degree audio technology to know that we have a method for studying virtual reality in a sequential manner, removing the clutter before adding each element to observe the effects on a person’s presence of mind.

Computer science and psychology combined explains how we combine the information we receive from the sources, integrate that together to make understand the environment. It says that we combine our sensory information in an optimum manner each sense contribute as an estimate of the environment. Computer and psychology combindly is the main base for the virtual reality system.

Example: consider a person with good hearing is walking around on the roads at night time. He heard a slight shadow and the sound of footsteps from the distance approaching him but the person is not sure about what he is seeing due to the noise in the signal instead they depend on hearing as there is no noise around this example is the more reliable signal.

Understanding how people get information from their senses is very important to the long-term success of virtual reality. Maximum many people estimate to model how efficiently this virtual reality technology works and what to experience it. Virtual reality system needs to develop its multi-sensory environment.

With the better knowledge of human perception, it will lead to even more efficient and immersive virtual reality experience. It’s not about a matter of separating each signal from the noise to give the most accurate results for virtual reality to work for the practical application not only in the entertainment world but also in all other aspects like sports, learning, education etc.
